English for Artists
Last weekend, I went to southern Germany to lead a workshop for some English teaching colleagues. The subject?
“English for Artists”
Over the past two years of specialising in “Language coaching for creatives who want to express themselves more freely and beautifully in English” (in case you didn’t realise – that’s what I do!) I wanted to see if I had some insights to share with my colleagues from the English language teaching world.
As I shared in an Instagram reel from last week, sometimes when we’ve spent a lot of time working on something, it becomes difficult for us to judge how well we actually know the thing that we’re studying. Because we’re so familiar with it, crucial insights begin to look painfully obvious and hardly even worth communicating.
This is the moment when it’s a good idea to ✨go out and talk to people✨who will be able to tell us if what we have learned is relevant to them.
This was that moment for me.
This workshop helped me realise that, wow, yes, I have come to know a lot about this. I have made this my speciality: working with creative professionals who have advanced level English but don’t feel like they can express themselves freely and beautifully. And now I have unique insights and about this group of people and deep knowledge about how to help them.
Thank you to my dear colleagues from ELTAU e.V. in Ulm for inviting me and giving me this opportunity to share a little of my practice with you!
For those of you who missed it the workshop and are also in the ELT (=English Language Teaching) field, I’ll be speaking on the same topic at the IATEFL BESIG Conference in Stuttgart this year and the IATEFL Conference in Brighton next year.
For those of you who are artists, creatives, or other beautiful humans and are wondering if and how I could help you, go ahead and drop me a line or book a call with me so we can talk about what you need. I’d love to hear from you. ☻
